Objective: Cooperate with law enforcement agencies institutions for forensic research of wood samples.

The project provides expert support in investigations related to illegal logging and the export of illegally harvested timber and timber products. Established by ForestCom Timber Identification Lab is able to use such basic methods for assessing the origin of wood samples as:

  1. Wood Anatomy visual and microscopic examinations

  2. Physical and Mechanical analysis 

During this activity, the team uses simple identification procedures for wood species, timber quality and, as a result, it's grade by morphological, qualitative, and physical-mechanical properties of wood samples in cooperation with other institutions for forensic research of wood samples. The research results in reports suitable for law enforcement to help to tackle illegal logging associated crime.
