ForestCom detected forest cover changes on 295 forest sites in the Lviv region

During the first quarter of 2023, ForestCom experts monitored forest cover changes using satellite images in four Carpathian regions. The result was the identification of 295 sites in the Lviv region.

A map of identified territories is available at the link: https://forestcom.org.ua/mapforest/karta_1k_2023/index.html#9/50.1069/24.8868

ForestCom carries out monitoring using a semi-automated system involving experts that compare changes on satellite images and analyze official logging permits using the online database of the State Enterprise "Forestry Innovative Research Centre".

Experts selected 121 forest sites with no identifiable logging tickets in the database and where it was impossible to determine the forest user were highlighted for further selective monitoring (marked in yellow on the map).

ForestCom continues to monitor changes in forest cover and to inform the public and law enforcement about the field research results.
