Young volunteers!

On December 7, the ForestCom NGO together with the biology teacher Halyna Molodovets and 7th grade students of Kolodentsi School held an interesting volunteer project.

Every year, many schools in Ukraine organize winter feeding of birds, as does Kolodentsi school. Children, either with their parents or teachers, make feeders, place them in the gardens and begin feeding. This is a good thing to take care of local birds. Being environmentally responsible, people increasingly began using eco-friendly materials for making feeders. The project teaches how to use organic materials for feeders that are able to decompose over time and do not litter the areas around.

During the activity students with our experts constructed about 50 feeders in a biology class and hung them out in the nearby village park.

The teens learned that by helping the birds, they help themselves and other people in whose gardens these birds would find and eat harmful insects. As a result, gardeners will be able to stop using pesticides and get better and safer fruit crops.

As a result, everyone had a chance to learn that it is not only about feeding birds to preserve biodiversity, but also about a socially useful activity called volunteering!
