Primroses need preservation and protection

With the first spring rays of the sun, primroses appear on the forest meadows. These flowers delight us with their colours and fill us with joyful emotions after a long, grey and cold winter. That is why people rush to a forest and en masse pluck early flowering plants for sale and for themselves.

Most of the primroses are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. Common snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis), Crocus heuffelianus, Greater pasque flower (Pulsatílla grandis), Spring snowflake (Leucojum vernum), Fritillaria meleagris, Wild garlic (Allium ursinum) and many other flowers grow mainly on the protected areas of nature reserve fund and are on the verge of extinction. This means that we should be involved in their preservation and protection, not plucking flowers, and especially not buying them.

Let`s protect primroses together

Plucked or sometimes torn out with the bulb primroses is devastating damage to nature:

✔ plants lose the ability to form seeds and produce a new generation in the future. And torn out flowers with a bulb usually lead to their complete destruction.

✔ primroses are the only source of food for many insect’s species. If primroses disappear, butterflies, bees, bumblebees and other insects that enjoy their nectar and protect the forest from pests will disappear.

So, when you see these rare early flowering plants on the lawn, do not pluck them, but rather take a photo as a souvenir. Also, refrain from buying primroses - buying a small bouquet creates demand and supports criminal business.
