Healing Embrace of the Verkhovyna Forests: Discover Forest Therapy

Forest therapy is a unique wellness practice based on mindful observation of nature and immersion in its healing atmosphere. Its origins date back to ancient times when people instinctively sought healing in forested areas. Today, forest therapy takes on a new meaning in the urbanized world, where stress, detachment from nature, and emotional exhaustion have become hallmarks of everyday life.

During forest therapy sessions, participants slowly stroll along forest trails, focusing on sensations – the rustle of leaves, the scent of conifers, the song of birds. They breathe in the healing phytoncides released by trees. They practice meditation and breathing exercises in nature's embrace. This experience helps release stress, lower blood pressure, improve cognitive functions, and boost immunity.

Scientific research confirms the numerous benefits of forest therapy for physical and mental well-being. However, this practice holds the greatest potential for rehabilitation – recovery after severe trauma, illness, and overcoming the psychological impacts of emergencies on survivors.

For military personnel who have endured the horrors of war, forest therapy can become a blessed resource for healing. The safe atmosphere of the forest, free from triggering factors, the harmony and serenity of the natural environment contribute to the restoration of psychological balance for those affected by PTSD, concussions, and other consequences of combat, helping them find inner peace.

Verkhovyna National Nature Park, with its unique natural environment, is ideally suited for conducting such therapeutic activities. As part of the development project for Verkhovyna National Park, we aim to create a rehabilitation hub for combat veterans based on forest therapy programs. The Perkalaba Gate – the entrance area to the park – will be equipped with all necessary amenities for a comfortable stay, from a camping zone to a visitor center.

The rehabilitation hub will feature an inclusive, barrier-free infrastructure. In developing our project, we strive to make the benefits of natural forest therapy accessible to all who need it.

We have already acquired land with the help of Global Conservation, which continues to support the implementation of this important mission. However, we need your support in realizing this idea due to the scale and infrastructure development required for the site. Our initiative is open to collaboration with all interested parties – donors, military rehabilitation centers, NGOs, psychological rehabilitation specialists, and other caring individuals. Only together we can help those who have endured the most challenging trials, restoring their joy of life and vigor. The nature of the Carpathians can become a source of hope and healing.
